Hideo Kojima shared a series of footage from Death Stranding 2: On The Beach at the Tokyo Game Show last week, highlighting the disturbingly realistic photo mode, while also revealing that the doll man is called… Dollman. But what's really interesting is that Elle Fanning's character is called “Tomorrow.”
Fans followed this announcement and quickly found a connection: Death Stranding's first tagline is “Tomorrow is in your hands,” which is also the name of the final chapter where you take BB, AKA Lou, out of their pod.
The leading theory right now is that Kojima was stating the obvious this whole time, that tomorrow was literally in our hands. If fans are right, that means Elle Fanning will be playing an older Lou, which has some interesting implications.
Time skip or shenanigans on the beach?
There are two main theories as to why Lou would become an adult by the time of Death Stranding 2, either there's a big time jump after the first game, or it has something to do with the beach. After all, it's important enough to be in the sequel's subtitle.
To keep you updated on your Death Stranding lore, the beach is like a limbo, a state between life and death. This means that it is a timeless space, which is why the people who come here never age. The Chiral Network also uses this fact to send information back in time, which could explain Fanning's character. That would be incredibly apt, but Tomorrow could literally be tomorrow's Lou, postponed to yesterday.
Tomorrow is probably just a nickname, so this definitely fits. Die-Hardman isn't named after his parents' favorite Bruce Willis movie—after all, he earned that name in the military.
Since Sam Porter doesn't look much older, I'm inclined to believe Beach's theory more than the time jump, especially considering he still has little Lou with him. So, maybe Death Stranding 2 will have some time travel shenanigans, or maybe Tomorrow is just a red herring and we're all reading too much into the latest game's tagline. We'll find out next year.
