While there is absolutely no denying the fact that Zoro has become very strong, in terms of character progression, Zoro is somewhat stagnant. His character needs to be pushed in unique ways to make him look inward and to advance his story arc in exciting ways. Interestingly, Wano gave fans a glimpse of this when Zoro encountered a shinigami. Much to fans' disappointment, this came to nothing, but it could easily be setup for something much bigger and could tie into the Land of the Dead.
Zoro's encounter with the Shinigami in the Wano arc
-
Zoro beat King and was paralyzed
-
A mysterious Shinigami attempted to kill Zoro
The Wano Arc was absolutely amazing for Zoro. It was during this story arc that he fought for what can technically be called his homeland, carrying the weight of countless people on his shoulders, such as those of Ebisu Town, among others. Zoro was absolutely unstoppable in this arc. Having come to Wano with Luffy to defeat Kaido, Zoro did his best and went on to give Yonko a scar, a feat only achieved by Oden before him. Later, he also beat King. These were quite easily Zoro's greatest achievements in the Wano arc and its highlights. But one thing that many fans found peculiar in this story arc was Zoro's encounter with a real reaper after his battle against King.
Who are you? Stay away from me! I can't move! – Zoro
Once Zoro beat Kaido's right arm, he was left unable to move. It was during this time that he encountered the Grim Reaper who was carrying a huge scythe in his hand and attempted to take his life. Zoro was seen struggling and eventually passed out, and when he finally woke up, the Grim Reaper was no longer there. This was one of the biggest mysteries of the Wano arc, and something that left fans unsatisfied, because the answer to what exactly happened was not provided by the author.
But this could clearly have been a starting point for something big to come later, and that's what fans are hoping for. Luckily for them, this ties into a very intriguing concept that arose long ago in the story, and may come up once again in the Final Saga.
Chi Zoro could visit the land of the dead
Zoro will probably meet the Shinigami again
There are two paths to Zoro Shinigami's storyline in the Final Saga. The very first plot could be that Zoro was simply hallucinating due to overusing Enma and putting his life at risk by taking the mink drug. Due to this drug, Zoro could have started to hallucinate, and since his life was in danger, he could have visualized death itself. This is a pretty sensible answer. However, there is another answer that fans would definitely be more intrigued by. This possibility sees the Grim Reaper actually real. It's possible that Zoro wasn't hallucinating this person and was actually dealing with a Grim Reaper. As for how this could be real, fans need look no further than the Thriller Bark Arc to find the answer. It is during this story arc that Brook states that the Land of the Dead actually exists.
From today on I will never lose! Is that a problem, Pirate King? – Zoro
When Brook died, his soul went to the Land of the Dead, or Yomi no Kuni, as he calls it. His soul later returned from the Land of the Dead, and this was due to the nature of his Devil Fruit, which saw him reborn once he fell to his death along with the rest of his crew. The fact that there is a Land of the Dead essentially means that Zoro could potentially have almost entered this country.

One Piece: Why 2025 Will Be Great for Monkey D. Dragon
2025 could finally see Dragon make his move in One Piece.
It may have been at the border between the two worlds, where the Grim Reaper may have come from. The fact that Brook has been to this country could mean that it is possible for someone to go to the Land of the Dead, probably after death. But since Brook returned from there due to the nature of his devil fruit, perhaps there are also other ways to get there and back without actually crossing over to the other world.
Who would be the focus of The Land Of Dead?
Zoro and Brook could be the protagonists of this plot
The Land of the Dead could be incredibly exciting for Zoro. After all, this is it One piece and here, everything Oda wants to be real can be real. Whether it's prehistoric islands or even completely different kingdoms, Oda can easily make it real if he wants. The only thing Oda should do is find a way for Zoro to get to the Land of the Dead, where he can introduce a myriad of exciting concepts and, at the same time, bring Zoro face to face. even with shinigami.
The most likely answer here is that Zoro is on the brink of death again. It should be remembered that Brook was only able to visit the Land of the Dead after his actual death. Zoro may have a similar experience when fighting Mihawk, or perhaps some other enemy One piece. In order for Zoro to get to the Land of the Dead, he will essentially have to lose a battle so tough that he is considered dead. Once this happens, Zoro's soul will most likely pass into the Land of the Dead, where he will potentially encounter shinigami again and fight for his life.
Zoro would then have to conquer the Land of the Dead by beating the King of the Land of the Dead, or in other words, the shinigami he had seen previously, in order to return to life. This could end up becoming the central idea behind Zoro's next battles in the Final Saga, and the final step in realizing his dream of defeating Dracule Mihawk. There is a lot of potential in this idea and fans will most likely be able to explore it through the characters of Brook and Zoro in one way or another. Hopefully, Oda doesn't neglect the Land of the Dead in the final One Piece saga and gives readers a taste of shinigami once again.
