Explanation of the Super Saiyan Blue evolutions of Goku and Vegeta

Key points

  • Goku's Super Saiyan Blue with Kaioken combines two techniques, greatly increasing his power but putting a strain on his energy levels and stamina.
  • Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolved is a new transformation, visually distinct and stronger than normal Super Saiyan Blue.
  • Both forms were used in the Tournament of Power, with Goku's Kaioken x20 still inferior to Jiren, while Vegeta surpassed his limits to defeat Toppo.

Dragon Ball Super showed that the characters were stronger than they had ever been in the past, especially thanks to the new transformations they were able to unlock with the introduction of God Ki. Thanks to this new unique energy from the Gods, Goku and Vegeta could now tap into power greater than anything before by transforming into a Super Saiyan God. Ultimately, they overcame their limits and unlocked a higher form; Super Saiyan Blue.

For the most part, Super Saiyan Blue became the default transformation for two Saiyans after the events of the Resurrection F arc of Dragon Ball Super. However, the Tournament of Power saw them become even stronger with their Blue transformations, albeit in very different ways. So, let's take a look at these unique evolutions of Super Saiyan Blue and examine their specialties, their strengths, and see which one was stronger.

Universe Arc 6

While this isn't technically a new transformation beyond the regular Super Saiyan Blue, it is Goku's favorite way to further increase his power. Instead of powering up to reach a stage beyond Super Saiyan Blue, Goku instead strengthens his body and powers with Kaioken to reach that stage, greatly powering up and becoming much stronger than before.

Since this state is the fusion of two different upgrades, Goku's Super Saiyan Blue takes on a reddish hue and his normal blue Ki has another, larger red Ki on top of it. Due to using two extremely strenuous techniques, the strain they place on Goku's energy and stamina levels is immense, as it is explained that the combination has a 10% chance of working and a 90% chance of failing, in which case Goku will. die.

Oh… it's the Kaioken attack. It's like a huge energy boost. Everything is enhanced: power, speed, even hearing and vision improve significantly.

The first use of Super Saiyan Blue with Kaioken occurred in the Universe 6 arc when Goku fought against Hit. Initially, the Saiyan was repeatedly overwhelmed by the legendary assassin's time-manipulating powers. To make up for the difference in strength, Goku awakened the Kaioken power-up over Super Saiyan Blue, adding a 10x multiplier to his overall strength which allowed him to overcome Hit's time skip. It was initially explained that Goku had saved the technique for his eventual rematch against Beerus, but at that moment he felt the need to use it.

Goku used the combination of his two powerful states again in his fight against Zamasu in the Goku Black arc. However, it was only during the Tournament of Power that Goku surpassed his abilities, using Kaioken x20 in his heated battle with Jiren. However, while the power-up was incredible and gave Goku much better strength and speed, it was still below Jiren's level, although it was still used to great effect against other fighters.

Arc of Power Tournament

Unlike Goku's Super Saiyan Blue with Kaioken, Super Saiyan Blue Evolved is a brand new transformation unique to Vegeta. It does not add a technique to multiply the innate power of his forms, rather, it is an entirely new form that is much stronger than Super Saiyan Blue, giving Vegeta a unique hue and aura that likely makes him even stronger than the Blue state of Goku with Kaioken. , although the difference between them is negligible.

Visually, the change from Super Saiyan Blue can be seen quite clearly. In this form, Vegeta becomes more massive and has a larger and much more pronounced muscle mass, with his aura taking on a brighter hue with sparkling particles surrounding him, although his hair takes on a darker shade of blue. Essentially, this form acts as a significant upgrade to the normal Super Saiyan Blue, similar to how Super Saiyan Rank 2 was, with spikier hair and an increase in overall power.

I will push my limits! My way! On my terms!

The transformation was originally born out of desperation at the beginning of Goku and Vegeta's joint assault on Jiren. After seeing Goku reach new heights with the Ultra Instinct Omen, failing to achieve it himself, and having been easily defeated in a previous battle against the strongest in Universe 11, Vegeta dug deep within himself and surpassed its limits like never before, unlocking a transformation that hasn't been seen before. unique only to him, but it was a better alternative than Goku's Kaioken x20 boost because it was much more sustainable.

However, much like Goku's increase in power, he was still no match for Jiren, who was able to hold both fighters back. However, he was a tremendous asset to Universe 7 once Toppo unlocked his God of Destruction abilities, even overpowering the destroyer in one of the best fights of Super. This was incredibly important to Vegeta as a character as it showed him defeating a candidate for the position of Destroyer God using his own strength.
