Epic gives away free games via its online store all year round, but it kicks things up a notch over the holidays. Rather than giving away a game or two a week, during the 2023 holiday season, Epic gave away a total of 17 games. It kicked off its holiday event with a week-long giveaway and then proceeded to offer up a free game every day for a period that spanned more than two weeks.

KILL KNIGHT is an ultra-responsive arcade-inspired isometric action shooter. Condemned to eternal sufferance, deep within the voids of an eldritch arena, you must wield an arsenal of devastating weaponry to obliterate swarms of otherworldly horrors – and MASTER THE DEMON WITHIN.
As we near the end of the year and the holiday giveaway rolls on, Epic has gone real dark with it for the game it’s giving away today. Kill Knight puts you into a reanimated suit of armor. Oh, inside that armor is a corpse come back to life that must battle through five Eldritch layers, each one providing you with an even tougher challenge than the last. Its retro feel has been designed to mimic the classic arcade games that inspired it with a modern twist, and if all of that sounds like your kind of thing, Kill Knight could well be the best game you hadn’t heard of until now. Hopefully not so many that you’ve had your fill as the Epic giveaway wheel keeps turning and for Christmas Day itself, Epic comes bearing a big old gift. Remedy’s Control is free right now, and I know I probably shouldn’t have favorites, but this is the best game Epic has given away so far during this current holiday giveaway. No studio in the world does supernatural quite like Remedy, and Control is just as good as what it has given us via Alan Wake. Yeah, I said it.

Just like in 2023, Epic has kicked off its big holiday giveaway with a game that’s available to claim for a full week rather than 24 hours like most of the games that will follow it. Destiny 2 began the festivities last year, and this year it’s The Lord Of The Ring Return To Moria that gets us underway. Fitting with War Of Rohirrim hitting cinemas, and those who loved the movie can make this holiday season a Lord of the Rings-themed one by picking up Return To Moria for free.
