WASHINGTON: False or misleading claims about the US election posted on X by Elon Musk have racked up nearly 1.2 billion views this year, a watchdog reported Thursday, highlighting the billionaire’s potential influence on the highly polarized race for the White House. Ahead of the November election, researchers have been warning that X, formerly Twitter, is a hotbed of political misinformation. They have also warned that Musk, who bought the platform in 2022 and is a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, appears to be influencing voters by spreading falsehoods on his personal account.
