EA Sports has confirmed that a new patch update is available for its popular fighting game, 5th anniversarywill be released on September 26, adding Chase Hooper and Lerone Murphy to the game's large roster of mixed martial artists. The patch will be available for download on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at approximately 10:00 AM PT, featuring new balance adjustments and two new fighters for 5th anniversary players to control.

Following its release in 2023, developer EA Vancouver has promised fans that it will continue to add new fighters to 5th anniversary regularly. With the latest patch now confirmed to close out September, fans will be able to download the free content update and play as lightweight star Chase Hooper and 33-year-old featherweight Lerone Murphy, currently ranked twelfth in the division. In addition to the addition of two new fighters, the 1.14 update also brings a handful of new adjustments and balance fixes to ensure a smooth gameplay experience for both fighters and strikers.

Before the launch of the latest update, EA released two new 5th anniversary alter egos for Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega on September 25. The two had a five-round war in 2021 at UFC 226, with Volkanovski winning by unanimous decision. To mark the third anniversary of the epic fight, EA is celebrating with a new “on this day” alter ego series that aims to recapture the fighters as they were on the day of their fight.

As for the new fighters released with patch 1.14, fans will be able to check out lightweight contender Chase Hooper, who is only 25 years old but is known to be a dangerous fighter and will be a great choice for any 5th anniversary player looking to earn a submission win. Then there’s Lerone Murphy, who has recently made his way up the UFC featherweight rankings, where he sits at No. 12. Murphy not only has a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but he also has an explosive stand-up game and plenty of stamina.

There are also a handful of new balance adjustments and bug fixes included in the September 26 patch, including a reduced stamina perk requirement for some ground transitions, details of which can be found in the official patch notes below. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any surprising adjustments in the latest 5th anniversary update, but it contains some important bug fixes.

Gameplay Updates

  • Fixed an issue that allowed a fighter to partially block the main hook's special counterattack after using a sliding back hook while advancing.
  • Fixed an issue where access to the Triangle would be unavailable from Submissive Rubber Guard when you had a large stamina advantage.
  • Reduced the stamina advantage requirement for some ground transitions:
    • Smash pass from dominant full guard to side control from 25 to 10.
      • This happens when the submissive moves to one side and then the dominant, being the second to move, moves to the other side. This requires Wrestling Transitions.
    • Lateral control with 70 to 50 range.
      • This is a circumstantial sweep that comes from the hip-out to half-guard transition. It requires Wrestling Sweeps and was also very rare due to the very high stamina advantage requirement.
  • Fixed a camera issue when finishing the Heel Hook.
