Aoyama Yuga has always been an eccentric character My academic world of heroes. At first, Aoyama's character could be attributed to the desire to shine as brightly as possible; hence the name of its hero, Can't Stop Twinkling. Like Midoriya, Aoyama was born Quirkless; however, unlike Midoriya, Aoyama's family was quite wealthy.

Aoyama's parents were aware of the prejudices faced by Quirkless individuals. They were worried that Aoyama would be treated differently and all they wanted was Aoyama's happiness. It was then that they came across a rumor that Aoyama would be able to receive a Quirk for free, and thus, they were able to contact All For One. At the time they believed that this Quirk would be free and thus they came to live comfortably.

However, All For One soon contacted the Aoyama family and asked Yuga to enroll in UA High School. In chapter 425, Aoyama confesses that All For One ordered him to sign up; therefore, it is likely that Aoyama never thought of becoming a hero and just wanted to live comfortably with his parents. Out of fear of All For One's retaliation, Aoyama would become the UA's spy, providing All For One with the requested information.

Although enrolling in UA was a choice All For One made for Aoyama, after enrolling in the heroism department and forming bonds with Class A, Aoyama likely wanted to become a hero for his own violation. This is also probably why Aoyama contributed little during the previous arcs and why Ida gave him a pep talk during the Provisional Hero License Exam arc. However, over the course of the series, Aoyama takes his training more seriously.
