It's been a strange year for Destiny 2with a delayed and highly publicized The Final Shape expansion launching to incredible success, only for Bungie to fall out of favor due to mass layoffs and multiple controversies both in and out of the game. Even though The Final Shape was considered the best expansion in the franchise's history by many longtime fans, it hit a sore spot with all the marketing material involving the return of Exotic class items. Destiny 2only to be accessed via a communications-heavy two-player activity. This has sparked a debate about single player and accessibility, and no resolution has yet been found. Bungie has taken a few steps in the right direction and Festival of the Lost 2024 is also addressing this issue, but there's a problem.
It's not uncommon for Bungie to try to find solutions to problems that appease the community, and while this isn't always feasible, Exotic class items have become one of the game's biggest problems. The problem was twofold: Destiny 2 players didn't want to rely on the multiplayer mission as the only source for their first exotic class item, and the RNG on drops made it nearly impossible to get the desired god roll. The second part was addressed in several ways, but the first was not until FotL 2024.

Destiny 2 giving away Exotic class items during FotL is a big change
2024's Festival of the Lost may have probably timed its release date poorly given that it's only two days before Halloween, but it's full of good loot for players to find, including a new rifle archetype. More importantly, Festival of the Lost 2024 will allow for this Destiny 2 Players will be able to obtain Exotic class items from Eve in the Tower, even if they have never completed the associated Exotic quest once.
This is a huge change for loot accessibility and shows that Bungie is listening to player feedback regarding some of the game's biggest issues. Giving all players the ability to get Exotic class items without farming Dual Destiny or Overthrow chests in the Pale Heart is a big change that shouldn't fly under Guardian's radar, especially since they'll only cost 1 Creepy Engram and 2,500 Candy. Pretty much anyone can farm resources for at least one Exotic class item, so it's a fantastic way to make up for the controversy from earlier this year.
Festival of the Lost's “free” exotic class items are a double-edged sword
Unfortunately, players will still need to complete the Dual Destiny Exotic quest to unlock the recently added Exotic Class Item Attunement feature, which allows players to select a certain perk for a better chance of getting it in combination with another random perk. However, for those who have unlocked the activation of Exotic class items, the event is even more rewarding, as each item obtained through Eva Levante will be granted the perk selected on the activation screen. This allows you to gain a certain combination of Exotic class item perks Destiny 2 much easier than ever, even more so if players use all three classes instead of keeping just one.
Therefore, now is the perfect time to start farming exotic class items, as there are many other good rewards from the Festival of the Lost, from the event-exclusive FotL memento to various weapons with new perk combinations. It is hoped that the current problems with the Festival of the Lost reported by some players will be resolved and that the event can be fully enjoyable for everyone, even in the midst of Destiny 2 controversy over perk weighting that's pushing Bungie to look at how the game generates perk combinations. Until then, players will be able to enjoy “free” Exotic class items, but will still complete Dual Destiny once for the full package.
