Danny Masterson ‘expelled’ from Scientology after rape conviction

Danny Masterson has reportedly been excommunicated from the Church of Scientology following his rape conviction.

The actor was recently sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two women at the height of his career two decades.

Following the ruling, the Church of Scientology declared a “suppressive person” which the church labels someone whose behaviour seeks to impede the spiritual progress of those around him, according to the Daily Mail.

As a result, this means any fellow Scientologist who knows Masterson will be forced to cut ties or face similar treatment.

Masterson’s wife, Bijou Phillips, and his own family are members of the Church and so they will have to abide by its ruling.

Surprisinglym however, despite Masterson’s covinction and the church’s subsequent ousting, it’s believed the organisation still consider him to be innocent of all charges.

Jeffrey Augustine, a former Scientologist, claims the organisation is telling members that former Scientologist Leah Remini conspired with other ex-Scientologists to disparage Masterson.

“According to my sources, Danny has been declared a suppressive person, which means he would be expelled from Scientology,” Augustine said on his website.

“They are telling Scientologists that he will file an appeal and that he is innocent of the charges for which he was convicted.”

“They (church officials) declared Danny a suppressive person for not maintaining the high ethical standards for the Church of Scientology, and other reasons – but not because he was convicted of rape,” Augustine added.

Masterson, best known for starring on That 70s Show, was convicted of two counts of rape back in May of this year. A third rape charge against him ended with a hung jury.

He was sentenced last month to three decades behind bars.

Masterson had denied any wrongdoing but did not testify in court, nor did his lawyers call any witnesses to the stand. Instead, the defence argued that the sexual acts were consensual, and accused the women of co-ordinating stories to discredit the former Hollywood star.

Meanwhile, Masterson’s wife, Phillips, has since filed from divorce from the disgraced star.
