Black Ops 6 was right not to follow in Modern Warfare's footsteps

Finally, after months of waiting, the next one call of Duty it came in the form of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Players are once again thrown into the gripping world of spies and espionage within call of Duty subseries, which has been quite a thrilling experience so far. While it may not reach the pinnacle of the series' golden era, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 it was still a breath of fresh air for many. Intriguingly enough, one of its biggest advantages is how drastically different it is from Modern warfare.

For years, the call of Duty franchising has been defined by Black operations AND Modern warfare subseries. Players were able to experience two very distinct war stories, get close to different casts of characters, and explore different time periods under the call of Duty structure. However, in 2019, things changed when Infinity Ward chose to reboot it Modern warfare series instead of moving forward with indie games or continuing with the old MW universe. While this initially proved to be a success as the 2019 game was well received, it also meant that the original trilogy universe was thrown out the window and, fortunately, Black operations 6 he did not follow in those footsteps.

The changes to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign are a double-edged sword

One of the main approaches to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's campaign is quite different from its predecessor, bringing a number of positives and negatives.

Call of Duty: Black Ops was right not to reboot

Modern Warfare rebooted the franchise

Since its inception, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare the subseries was a fan favorite. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare took the entire franchise to new heights with its campaign and multiplayer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 took things even further, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 brought the trilogy to a mostly satisfying conclusion. To this day, these titles are often considered some of the best in the franchise, and some are even considered the best the FPS genre has to offer.

THE Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy helped set a new precedent for this franchise, as players seemed to love pretty much everything that was included in these titles. The campaigns are still talked about today, the hand-crafted missions in the original Spec Ops mode helped give MW2 AND MW3 a unique touch and, for now, this trilogy is made up of the only one call of Duty titles to obtain remastering. But instead of expanding the foundation of this saga with a fourth entry, the studio instead chose to go back to square one. And while this made for another great FPS starring fan favorites who had been killed off, it also meant that everything that had come before now meant nothing, which was sad to see.

Black Ops has made great strides with its wacky timeline

Unlike Call of Duty: Modern WarfareTHE Call of Duty Black Ops the series has been all over the place regarding its timeline. Focused on the Cold War Call of Duty Black Ops is often considered one of the best games the franchise offers, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 featured two war eras, primarily set in 2025. Black operations 3 jumped to 2065 and turned the franchise into a shooter of sorts with its wall-running specialists, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 I went back to the 40s and experienced a Battle Royale mode instead of a campaign. Now, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 brought this subseries back to its roots, picking up where it was Black Ops Cold War left out. Although there have been many great games within the Black operations subseries, has been decidedly disjointed when it comes to its timeline. But even with this challenge, Treyarch has yet to reboot it, choosing instead to fill in the gaps in the Black operations Universe with its most recent versions.

While it could have gone back to square one, Treyarch instead moved forward with the universe it has been building and expanding for 14 years. Every entry, bar Black operations 3 due to its future setting, it explored the same characters or relatives of said characters. This has helped make the likes of Frank Woods, the Mason family, Jason Hudson, Viktor Resnov, and recently Russel Adler some of the most iconic characters the entire franchise has to offer. Players have been able to grow fond of them across multiple titles, with their stories still being written as Treyarch further fleshes out the different eras of its universe.

Call of Duty: Modern WarfareThe characters and stories of will likely forever be iconic too, but the fact that they've been completely rebooted means that players have two versions of said stories to juggle, with the new timeline also retreading familiar ground and being scrutinized from longtime fans who feel like some characters and moments don't live up to the old Modern wars. Black Ops 6, on the other hand, it's building on the original stories with new ones, which helps make its characters feel more realized and developed. Plus, it means that everything that came before still matters in the grand scheme of things, with Treyarch able to recall important moments and keep everyone's interest alive. Black operations veterans while still trying new things.
