G.I. Joe action figures have been around a long time, and have also seen various formats. However, the Classified Series is arguably the best line that Hasbro has come out with for the International Heroes. The main reason for this is that despite having a modern, more articulate build, they stay true to ther original design of each character.
Popular names return with the same design, costumes, and weaponry we remember from when we were kids. Hasbro’s attention to detail has ensured that the G.I. Joe Classified Series invokes nostalgia within everyone who ever owned a ’90s G.I. Joe action figure while growing up.
Updated on September 26, 2023 by Vaspaan Dastoor: We saw a number of upcoming G.I. Joe Classified Series action figures during last week’s Hasbro Pulse Con 2024. We were shown digital renders of Metal Head and Big Boa, and pre-orders went live for the likes of General Hawk, Ripper, and Buzzer. So, while you’re pondering which of the new entrants you want to add to your collection, we figured it was a good time to update this list with a few more Joes to enlist.
An arm for every occasion
The Battle Android Trooper, or B.A.T. is the only unnamed character on this list, primarily because of how cool the figure is. It featured swappable arms back in a time when the concept wasn’t very widespread, and continues to do so with it’s Classified Series version. Additionally, it also features alternate parts with battle damage on them.
- Swappable arm pieces for different functionalities.
- Alternate parts with battle damage.
- Removable panel reveals inner circuitry.
The B.A.T. was a special action figure back when it launched with the original line. It’s unique arm-swapping feature made it a must-have at the time. The Classified Series version of the B.A.T. kept all those features, and added in some alternate parts with battle damage that give off a Terminator vibe.
Easily the hottest G.I. Joe
Barbecue was never ther most popular G.I. Joe, but his unique suit and his awesome axe made him pretty popular in the original line. With the Classified Series version, Hasbro decided to double down with a much larger and cooler looking axe. His suit is also buffed up a bit more, making it look legitimately fire-resistant.
- Suit is intricately detailed.
- Features a new, larger axe.
- Comes in blue as well.
Barbecue’s suit, axe, and flamethrower always set him apart from the rest of the Joes, who had proper guns. In order to compensate, Hasbro decided to give him another, bigger axe. While he’s still bringing an axe to a gun fight, at least it’s a much better axe. The suit is almost exactly like how I remember it too.
“Obey me, or face the consequences of disobeying Cobra Commander!”
Anyone who knows anything about G.I. Joe knows that Cobra Commander isn’t one to head to the front lines himself. And so, that gun and that sword are probably ceremonial. However, he used that pointing finger alternate hand very often, and so, it makes perfect sense that Hasbro decided to include it.
- Great take on the character.
- Pointing finger is perfect for his character.
Cobra Commander isn’t exactly known for his skills as a soldier, but for his ability to command the villainous organization. Maybe there’s a clue in the name. With a rather useless gun and sword, the Commander’s most powerful weapon is that alternate hand with a pointed finger. Fear the might of Cobra!
Snake Eyes & Timber
A ninja, a wolf, and an arsenal
Snake Eyes is arguably the most popular G.I. Joe, but what makes this Classified Series version better is that his pet wolf Timber also comes along. That, and the sheer number of weapons for the Joe to complete his mission in any way he sees fit. Timber features an alternate growling head too.
- Features eight different weapons.
- Timber is the goodest boy.
- Alternate hand holds a shuriken.
Whenever the Joes need something done covertly, they send in Snake Eyes. However, when they want things done with a bang, they send Snake Eyes, his pet wolf, and eight different weapons. The Snake Eyes & Timber Classified Series set is easily one of the most popular ones you can get your hands on.
Storm Shadow is Snake Eyes’ nemesis, who conveniently works for his organization’s nemesis. The two have faced off on many occasions, and now compete to see who has the coolest Classified Series action figure. The Joe may have more weapons, but it’s hard to compete with the coolness factor of a bow wielding ninja in all white.
- That bow look very cool.
- Features his iconic hood as well.
- Would complement the Snake Eyes figure.
Being a long-time nemesis to Snake Eyes, it only made sense that Storm Shadow would join Cobra. But, while the former relies on guns, the Cobra Ninja stays true to his roots, using swords and a bow – on most occasions at least. The two are destined to face off until one of them dies – and we know death isn’t a thing in the G.I. Joe universe.
Profit Director Destro
Stacks and stacks
The iconic silver chromed villain has upped his game. He is now golden, wears animal fur, walks around with a briefcase full of money, and even burns cash. This version of Destro is just supremely cool, and will stand out on your shelf. This is what happens when Cobra invests in the right stocks.
- Great alternate take on the character.
- Just looks really cool.
- Burning cash is a great touch.
There’s no PG way of saying this, Hasbro literally pimped up Destro. The once silvery second-in-command is now the golden boy of the stock market. His accessories depict that he literally has enough money to burn. Looks like Cobra had a great year, financially.
Heavy Artillery Roadblock
You shall not pass!
Roadblock is one of the most popular G.I. Joes for several reasons. Firstly, he always carries a massive gun, in this version it’s a minigun with a big drum, and he was played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the live action movie. While that second reason may not matter to most people, Roadblock has definitely bulldozed his way into the hearts of G.I. Joe fans with this Heave Artillery version.
- Massive minigun is quite an eye catcher.
- Facial hair is different from the standard version.
- Muscles are well defined and look good.
Roadblock’s whole thing is that he’s a big guy with a big gun. While that formula isn’t exactly fresh now, the Joe’s classic action figure was highly coveted because of it. He’s got multiple versions in the Classified series, but the Heavy Artillery Roadblock is our favourite, because who doesn’t like a massive minigun? He also comes with a sidearm in case enemies get too close, but let’s face it, Roadblocks main weapon are his natural guns.
Send out the pawns
The Cobra Officer is out first nameless entry in this list. Who knows how many of these guys the G.I. Joes have mowed down while stopping Cobra’s comically evil plans. The figure looks very well-designed, as it gives off the same evil vibe as that of a certain Axis power. This is a great tribute to the nameless foot soldiers who made sacrifices so that Cobra Commander could pull off whatever dastardly deed he had planned.
- Great detailing for a nameless character.
- The choice of weapons is very villain-like.
- Definitely looks evil.
It’s not very often that you see Cobra send out named characters to the battlefield. It’s usually a whole bunch of faceless goons, and a few of te named characters like Baroness or Destro running things. This Cobra Officer action figure is a great tribute to all those faceless goons who protect the named characters from the Joes. Most of the time, it didn’t go very well for them; they were perhaps the only characters on the original show that actually sort of died.
Croc Master & Fiona
A lot of G.I. Joe action figures come with pets, but not with the pet’s babies. Not only does the Classified Series version of Croc Master come with the crocodile, but she also has a name and two little croc babies! Fiona, as she’s called, loves two things in life, her adorable little croclets and crushing G.I. Joe skulls. This is one hell of a upgrade from the classic figure.
- Fiona is the cutest croc, and her babies are adorable too.
- Croc Master’s weapon is finally usable, unlike the classic figure.
- Likeness to the classic action figure is very close.
The best thing about Croc Master was always his mask and the pet crocodile. So, Hasbro decided to double down on it by recreating the mask perfectly and naming the crocodile Fiona and making her much larger than the original. If that wasn’t enough, they also gave Fiona two adorable little croclets. This is a standout set and will look absolutely great on your shelf, because why wouldn’t a giant croc be great?
What is the G.I. Joe Classified Series scale?
All G.I. Joe Classified Series action figures are presented in 6-inch scale. They are designed to look like their original launch versions from the ’90s.
Why are G.I. Joe action figures so expensive?
Like many classic toys, the original G.I. Joe action figures have now become collector’s items, going for way more than their original value. This is because they are not manufactured anymore.
