One of the central points of interest in My Hero Academia is the all-powerful and transferable Quirk, One For All. By the time it was passed to Midoriya Izuku, the Quirk had gone through eight users in total, growing in strength each time it was transferred.

Who are the best students in class 1-A of My Hero Academia?
Even though its origins were a bit simple and vague in previous seasons, One For All is explored more with each season. Not only were the quirks of past users revealed, but also their identities, backstories, and (most importantly) tragic fates.

Shinomori Hikage
Fourth owner
Unlike the other wielders of One For All, Shinomori Hikage was the only one to resolutely avoid confrontation with All For One. Being a fourth generation user, Hikage was realistic about his situation and knew he had no chance of winning against All For One.
Hikage chose to increase the power of One For All for the next user to exploit. But Hikage noticed how much One For All affected him, aging his body so rapidly to the point that he died of old age at 40. His circumstances helped previous and future wielders understand that only a Quirkless person could bear the weight of One For All effectively. .
8
Bruce
Third owner
Bruce was once a member of Kudo's resistance group and was his right-hand man. He lived through the early days of Quirks and the subsequent turmoil that followed, and was extremely against All For One and what it stood for.
Despite his initial reluctance to accept Midoriya as One For All's next user, Bruce recovered after Shigaraki Yoichi spoke to him. He also advised and guided Midoriya on the use of his Quirk, Fa Jin, which can accumulate and store kinetic energy in the body to increase one's speed or strength.

Compliments
Second bearer
Before obtaining One For All, Kudo was the leader of a resistance force determined to kill All For One. Despite having a strong moral compass, he displayed a ruthless streak after admitting to killing others to achieve his ultimate goal.
After meeting Yoichi for the first time, Kudo chooses to spare and save him instead of killing him because he is All For One's brother. Kudo was not supposed to receive One For All, accidentally becoming the second user due to being splattered with Yoichi's blood. He was killed by All For One, but not before passing the Quirk on to Bruce.
6
Tayutai En
Sixth owner
Once known through his Pro-Hero alias, Smoke-Eater, Tayutai En received One For All from Banjo, who was killed by All For One soon after. All For One attempts to steal One For All from En, but she fights back and gives One For All to Shimura Nana by handing over some locks of her hair.

En has the Smokescreen quirk, which gives him the ability to produce clouds of purple smoke. Midoriya has used Smokescreen on multiple occasions, such as against Lady Nagant, with En stepping in to advise Midoriya on how to use his Quirk.
5
Banjo Daigoro
Fifth owner
Also known as Pro-Hero Lariat, the gruff and animated Banjo met Shinomori Hikage, who he described as a strange guy. Eventually, One For All was passed on to him. He fought All For One but died from his injuries after being buried under the rubble.
Banjo had the Quirk, Blackwhip, which allowed him to release the black tendrils from his body and control them. His Quirk is the first among the previous holders to manifest itself in Midoriya Izuku, and he was quick to reveal himself to Midoriya and teach him to control Blackwhip.
4
Nana Shimura
Seventh bearer
Shimura Nana was the mentor of Toshinori Yagi (or All Might) and the grandmother of Shigaraki Tomura. She was the first to choose a permanent successor for One For All, training Yagi alongside her best friend, Gran Torino.
She loved her son, Kotaro, but made the unfortunate decision to leave him due to the growing threat of All For One. This decision backfired against the Heroes, allowing All For One to swoop in and transform Shimura Tenko into Shigaraki Tomura. Despite what happened to her family, she still loved them and was overwhelmed by Midoriya's decision to save Shigaraki.
3
Toshinori Yagi
Eight owners
Toshinori Yagi, better known as the symbol of Peace All Might, is the penultimate wielder of One For All. He is the longest-serving user of One For All, having possessed the Quirk for over 40 years. Like Shimura Nana, Yagi chose a successor to receive One For All.
Since he is originally Quirkless, he was able to use One For All to its fullest, helping to create the decades of peace we saw in the show's early seasons. Yagi was also the first to inflict extreme physical damage on All For One, albeit at the expense of his own health. Even though One For All eventually left him, that didn't stop Yagi from joining the fight in the Final War.
2
Midoriya Izuku
Ninth owner
The main protagonist and final wielder of One For All, Midoriya Izuku, received the Quirk from All Might after a heroic display of selflessness. Although he seriously injures himself every time he uses One For All, he manages to control it after interning at Gran Torino.

Among all the owners, Midoriya is the only one who was able to unlock and use the Quirks of the previous owners of One For All. He is involved in the fight against Shigaraki Tomura and All For One, empathizing with Tomura and deciding to save his life instead of killing him outright.

Shigaraki Yoichi
First owner

|
The one who started it all, Shigaraki Yoichi was All For One's younger twin brother. He was sickly and weak of constitution, but this did not stop him from fighting his brother's megalomania. Yoichi forcibly received One For All from his brother and was eventually killed by him.
Although initially thought to be Quirkless, Yoichi managed to pass on his Quirk, which merged with One For All. His consciousness continues to live within One For All, the heroic spirit and kindness he had are shown when interacts with Midoriya. He doesn't seem to hate or resent his brother, instead he seems sad about how the situation turned out.
