World of Warcraft: The War Within introduced four new zones upon its release, one of which is known as Hallowfall. This beautiful marine biome is located inside a huge underground cavern. One would expect this light-starved land to be dark and silent, but it thrives with life in the warm radiance of its surrogate sun, Beledar.
Anyone World of Warcraft the player visiting Hallowfall will be amazed by the magnificent crystal that protrudes from the roof of the cave, filling the atmosphere with light and heat. Beledar is not the other end of Sargeras' sword
This crystal was somehow responsible for transporting an entire Arathi fleet from the surface to the cavern below, stranding its people in a foreign land. The Arathi have come to make Beledar the focus of their culture and worship, believing him to be an entity that dispenses hope and wisdom. At first glance, the fragment looks like the lower part of Sargeras' sword, which pierced the planet's crust, but as we learn more, this is not the case.
Because Beledar now has two personalities
Despite its apparent benevolence, the uninterrupted tranquility bestowed by Beledar's light would suddenly bring about a terrifying change. Unbeknownst to those beneath Azeroth's surface, the Burning Legion had been defeated, and their leader, Sargeras, plunged his great sword into the planet in a last, desperate attempt to destroy it. On that terrible day, Beledar changed.
The powerful gem in the sky began to pulse with new energy, waves of purple void engulfed its brilliance. Hallowfall was plunged into darkness, and the Arathi were left defenseless against the horrors that crawled beneath them, including kobyss and nerubians. Countless enemies, no longer repelled by the Light, swarmed into their settlements and the Arathi were nearly wiped out.
Beledar from WoW always returns to the light
Until, a few hours later, Beledar changed his position again. It regained its sacred glow, illuminating the entire cavern once again. Since then, OhThe people of Arathi have had to rely more and more on themselves and their devotion to the Light, knowing that at any moment Beledar could turn into darkness. These mood swings can last minutes or even days, but they are unavoidable.
No one knows where Beledar comes from
Although Beledar's origin is unknown, he has a tremendous influence on the people and the land below. It radiates the power of Light and for this reason, combined with its name, many players suspect that it is of Draenei origin. The draenei have the deepest understanding of the opposing forces of Light and Void, and Beledar may be a lost remnant of their ancient civilization.
Others have speculated that Beledar must be related in some way to the Naaru. These are floating, sentient entities made up of geometric Light crystals, many of which have befriended the draenei. Their life cycle often causes them to move between the Light and the Void, just as Beledar does. While the size and shape of the crystal doesn't quite fit Naaru's depiction, the resemblance still remains.
WoW's Halloween Zone is constantly changing
Just as its inhabitants do, players have quickly adapted to Hallowfall's frequent switching between light and dark. Some NPCs only come out in one of these phases, and even treasures and battle animals find themselves changing to adapt to Beledar's influence. A rare creature made of Void energy, called Beledar's Spawn, appears only when the crystal switches to its Void state, and drops a lookalike mount to boot.
While Beledar remains shrouded in mystery, characters such as Anduin Wrynn have noted that it must be intrinsically tied to Azeroth and the Titan that sleeps within it, even though it is not made of Azerite. As someone who can hear the voice of Azeroth, known as the Radiant Song, Anduin also stated that Beledar has an almost identical feel. The day Sargeras thrust his sword into Azeroth changed the planet forever, and so did Beledar, the mysterious but beautiful gem that has come to symbolize both hope and despair.
