Being Quantic Dream's fifth game, Detroit: Become Human takes up the formula used in other games based on the French studio's choices, such as Beyond: two souls AND Heavy rainand improves it further. Upon its launch, the game received overall positive reviews, eventually reaching an average critic score of 79 on OpenCritic. On the sales front, Detroit: Become Human it topped the charts in the UK before reaching over two million copies sold by the end of the year of release.

Quantic Dream's Detroit: Become Human has its flaws, but half a decade after its release, its story and characters still have so much substance.
According to Quantic Dream CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere on Twitter, Detroit: Become Human has now surpassed the 10 million unit sales mark on PlayStation and PC. The result only takes into account the game's paid units, leaving out PS Plus downloads of the story-driven title, as highlighted by de Fondaumiere. He wrote that the entire team is “extremely grateful” to all the players. He continued: “You mean the world to us and [sic] We couldn't have reached this incredible milestone without each and every one of you!”
Detroit: Become Human reaches very high sales levels years after launch
Detroit: Become Human reached the 10 million sales mark just over six years after its launch in 2018. Previously, the Quantic Dream title took more than two years to reach the five million mark in 2020. In comparison, the game has took about double the time to sell another five million copies and reach its latest historic milestone. In the comments on de Fondaumiere's tweet, several fans celebrated the great occasion. One fan chimed in with a short statement: “One of the best games ever made.” Another player praised the developer's work on the game, writing “You deserve it. Excellent game with a great cast.” Other comments asked Quantic Dream for some improvements to the existing version of the game, some of them asked for an update for PS5 and others encouraged the studio to make an update. Detroit: Become Human followed.
After announcing its plans to go multiplatform with NetEase's help in 2019, Quantic Dream took a step further to become wholly owned by the Chinese tech giant in 2022. It has since operated as NetEase's first game studio based in Europe and is currently working on the creation Star Wars Eclipseanother narrative-driven game, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
