Australian influencer Shaun Birley mistaken for Ryan Reynolds at Taiwan airport

An Australian influencer bearing a striking resemblance to Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has been bombarded for selfies at an airport.

Shaun Birley, a fashion content creator and travel presenter, posted a TikTok video of himself sitting in an airport gate lounge at Taiwan airport.

While there, he was stopped by 14 different people for photos. He jokingly captioned the video, ‘How do I tell them I’m not Ryan Reynolds’.

Birley explained he did initially try to be honest about his true identity, but people just thought he was “saying no to a selfie”.

So, he played along, telling fans, “I love doing movies”.

Birley spoke in his Australian accent during the encounters, which didn’t seem to raise suspicion among the dozens of people lining up for selfies.

The video has been viewed more than 80,000 times, with one user questioning, “They didn’t think it was strange you have an Aussie accent?” Birley replied, “No one noticed.”

Its attracted hundreds of comments on Birley’s social media accounts, where he has 100,000 Instagram followers and 35,000 TikTok followers.

“I wish I could be there for the moment someone tells them it isn’t Ryan Reynolds,” one wrote.

“Ryan Reynolds would not be sitting at the gate,” another added.

“You made a bunch of people happy, nothing wrong with that,” a third chimed in.

A fourth continued, “I’m just imagining their social posts about meeting Ryan Reynolds.”

Back in 2018, Birley told News Corp Australia he was often mistaken for the Deadpool actor.

“I get Ryan Reynolds all the time … Aaily,” he said. “Multiple times a day, actually.”

Others also thought Birley looked like Ryan Gosling.
