- Ubisoft's decision to delay Mirage on Steam may have negatively affected its player numbers.
- Future Ubisoft games, including Assassin's Creed Shadows, will launch day one on Steam.
Assassin's Creed Mirage got off to a rocky start on Steam, after launching with a much lower maximum player count than recent entries in the series. While Assassin's Creed Mirage has been available on other PC stores since October 2023, it was recently released on Steam after a year of waiting.
For many players, Assassin's Creed Mirage it represented a great opportunity to return to the long-running series, which had taken a new approach to voiced role-playing games Origins, OdysseyAND Valhalla. Assassin's Creed Mirage received positive reviews from critics and was generally seen as a solid return to the series' roots. It was essentially what many fans had requested over the years. Despite the positive reception, Ubisoft's decision to exclude it from Steam at launch meant that many PC players did not play the game Assassin's Creed Mirage Still.

SteamDB's player count graphs don't paint a pretty picture for the first few days of Assassin's Creed Miragethe Steam version. On the first Saturday of its release, when it was expected to retain the most players, the game peaked at 6,381 players at the time of writing. Looking at recent games in Assassin's Creed series, Origins peaked at 41,551 players, Odyssey to 62,069, and Valhalla to 15,679. This is a considerable decrease for Assassin's Creed Mirage. In the interest of fairness, Valhalla it's the only game of the RPG trio to not have a day-one release on Steam, which explains its lower number.
Assassin's Creed Mirage Steam player count is lower than recent ones
To put these numbers in perspective, at the exact time of writing, Assassin's Creed Mirage has 3,691 current players. Assassin's Creed: Odysseypublished in 2018, it has 3,370. These rough first numbers could change, of course, but they are certainly surprising, especially considering this Assassin's Creed Mirage launched on Steam with a steep 50% discount, bringing it to $24.99 until October 24th.
There's no doubt that the numbers are skewed by Steam's delayed release, but this won't be an issue for Ubisoft games going forward. Assassin's Creed Shadows will launch day one on Steam, as will most of the publisher's games in the future, which should make a big difference in making the player count look much healthier for the series. As for the series as a whole, it's going to be a busy few years. A recent rumor suggested that ten Assassin's Creed games will release over the next five years, which would be a big boost for a series that hasn't released a mainline title in either 2021 or 2022. Let's wait and see if that comes to fruition.
