The story of Dragon Age: The Veil Guard
In Veilguard we play as Rook, a character created by the player whose origin we can customize to some extent but always ends up working with Varric. These two, along with Harding, were hunt for Solaswho is trying tear the Veil.
We learned this at the Inquisition Solas is the truth behind an ancient elven goda deity of lies and betrayal. Obviously, he is not truly a godbut he is the same elf that all those stories and myths are based on, and he wants to break the Veil so that the Oblivion and the material world become one; just as they were thousands of years ago.
Rook and Varric succeed interrupt Solas' ritualwhich prevents the fusion of the Oblivion with the material world, but also frees two entities: Elgar'nan and Ghilan'naintwo ancient elves considered gods even by modern elves. Varric dies at this point, but Rook only finds out at the end of the gameas Solas is projecting an image of the dwarf into Rook's mind.
Form the Veloguard
It's up to Rook form a team and stop the two madmen before they destroy the world. These ancient elves can control the Scourgewhich they use as a primary force, as well as influence evil and corrupt people (making the Venatori and Qunari army their other main forces).
The people Rook brings to the team have a set of skills tailored to combat different threatsand some of their stories reveal enormous details relating to the lore of Thedas. Doing their personal research is necessary to obtain the best possible ending.
The Elves AND THE Titans
The biggest revelation the story offers by far is the true nature of elves, dwarves and darkspawn. The elves were originally spiritsWho they created their own bodies using Lyriuma substance well known in the world of Dragon Age for its magical power.
Lyrium is not just a mineral, it is the blood of the Titansancient ancestors of the dwarves. These Titans were connected to the Fade (since they existed when the Fade and the material world were the same), but they were massacred by the elves for their blood.
This is it because dwarves can't use magic, or even dream, and since they could not access their dreams, those dreams have become corruptedforming the Scourge. It is revealed that there is no Creator to punish the ancient Magisteriums of Tevinter for their sins. the Scourge are the untapped dreams of the Titans.
We also learn that some Qunari can breathe fire, although Qunari can already use magic, so it's unclear why breathing fire is seen as a bigger deal.
Facing the Elven Gods
During the game's final battle, Rook takes their team and, along with Solas, defeat Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain. However, to do so is to destroy the Veilsince the entire magical force was held in place by a single entity.
Rook and Solas have one last confrontationwhich can happen in different ways, but always culminates with Solas becoming the new anchor that holds the Veil together. How this happens is what separates one ending from another.
The end of Dragon Age: The Veil Guard
As mentioned before, the game ends with Solas holds the Veil in place. To do this, you not only need an ancient and powerful entity, but also… the Lyrium daggeran artifact that can pierce the Veil and wound immortal beings for its magical properties.
Everyone dies
If you run through the game and ignore virtually all of your companion's missionsyou will notice them all dropping like flies. No matter what task you give him in the end, they will all diedeparting only Torre with his two companions joining them in the final battle with Solas.
Solas, however, gets the better of Rook instantly, and turns their companions to stone. Rook then manages to confront Solas, who seems to have momentarily forgotten how to turn people to stone, and they are both sucked into the Veil to keep it together.
This happens because the Lyrium dagger reacts to spilled bloodand was covered in Rook and Solas' blood. The world is safe now, and while the entire Veilguard is deadat least they get a nice memorial statue to remember their efforts.
Fight or trick Solas
If you haven't skipped all the side quests, that is the most likely ending you will get. Some companions might die, but most won't, and you'll be left with one final choice: fight the god of liesOR trick him with a fake Lyrium dagger that your companions have appropriately prepared for you.
Not much difference here, then it is better to deceive him to save some time. The world is safe once again, and Rook even survives to tell the tale along with most of their Veilguard friends.
Solas convincing
To convince Solas, you will have to know the full extent of his backstory and his relationship with Mythal, as well as the things he had to do to get to where he is. To do this, you will be helped by Morriganwho holds the essence of Mythal after the death of his mother, Flemeth.
You also need all companions to survive, except for Harding or Davrin, as one of them always dies.
Group talk works and Solas agrees to hold the Veil in place. If the Inquisitor were in a romantic relationship with Solasthey both go they hold the Veil togetheras a final romantic action.
The end credits scene
If complete every single side missionyou will find hidden disks throughout the game, particularly at the end of some missions. Finding them all will do it unlock a final animated cutscene about the future antagonist of the Dragon Age saga, someone players may know from Dragon Age: Inquisition.
They are the perpetratorsa dark group from 'over the sea' it seems like it was pulling the strings of every event in the games. They orchestrated the events of all the Dragon Age games, including Veilguard, but we'll have to wait for a DLC or future game to know what their ultimate goal is.
