When the original Patapón released on PSP in 2007, the game seemed to be largely indicative of the experimental attitude PlayStation seemed to take towards many of its first-party video games. Although the titles were well received, Patapón temporarily disappeared following the closure of Japan Studio. Co-developer Pyramid continued to produce remasters of the game Patapón titles published by Sony. Lead developers from the original series, such as designer Hiroyuki Kotani and composer Kemmei Adachi, teamed up with producer Kazuto Sakajiri to create Rattan.
